GETTING THERE

Foreign visitors usually arrive to Ukraine through Borispol International airport (Kyiv). From Kyiv by local flight (changing to Zhulianiy domestic airport), train, bus or taxi you can get to Simferopol - capital of Crimean Autonomous Republic.

It is also possible to fly to Frankfurt (Germany) and then take a connecting flight straight to Simferopol (flight time - 3 hours 05 mins).

From Simferopol you will need to transfer to Simeiz by road. Our guests could be met by driver/interpreter and after approximately 1 hour of spectacular journey along picturesque road between mountains and Black Sea you will see wonderful parks and villas of Simeiz.

If you are travelling light and have got about 2 hours to spare - there is another delightful (though a bit slow) way to arrive - via the longest trolleybus line in the world, which runs from Simferopol to Yalta (about 100 km!), finishing just about 20 km. away from Simeiz. One more option is to take a minibus.

VISA REQUIREMENTS

Each person travelling to Crimea will need a visa. This must be obtained in advance before you leave UK - it is not possible to obtain it on arrival at Kyiv or Simferopol airports. Crimea is part of Ukraine, and visas are therefore issued by the Ukrainian consulate.

The information given below applies to people travelling from the United Kingdom. If you will be travelling from another country, you will need to contact the Ukrainian consulate in that country.

The Ukrainian consulate in London:

78 Kensington Park Road, London W11 2PL
Tel: (020) 7243 89 23 or (090) 6550 89 55 (information line)
Fax: (020) 7727 35 67
Opened: Monday-Friday, 09.30-12.00 hours

The Ukrainian consulate in Edinburgh:

8 Windsor Street, Edinburgh EH7 5JR
Tel: (0131) 556 00 23 or (090) 6550 89 55 (information line)
Fax: (0131) 557 34 60

The processing time for visas is generally between 3 days and two weeks, depending on your citizenship and whether you apply in person or by post. It is sensible to get your visa before you buy air tickets.

The visa application form is straightforward. The following papers are to be included with it:

- a valid passport (must not expire less than 1 month after your intended date of departure from Ukraine);
- 2 recent passport sized photographs (no need for them to be signed on the back by a third party);
- 2 separate cheques or postal orders covering the handling charge (GBP 10,-) and the visa fee;

If you are going to stay in a private rented apartment or with friends, you will need to give the address on your visa application form. In this case you should apply for a Private visa (GBP 30,-). If you book one of our private apartments you can make a provisional booking subject to obtaining your visa and airtickets. We will supply you with the address of the apartment to put on your visa application.

It used to be necessary to get a letter of invitation from someone in Ukraine, in order to get a visa. For many countries it is no longer required. If you are a citizen of Great Britain, EU countries, Canada, USA, Japan, Swiss Confederation, Republic of Turkey, or Slovak Republic, you do not need a letter of invitation.

If you are going to stay in a hotel, you will need to make the booking before you apply for your visa, and attach the tourist voucher with confirmation of your hotel booking to your visa application. In this case you should apply for a Tourist visa (GBP 25,-).

Only one address is necessary for the visa application. If you intend to move around during your stay, this is not a problem. Previously foreign visitors had to register with the local police in each new location. This inconvenience for tourists was abolished by presidential decree in 2001. Once your passport has been stamped at the Ukranian airport or any other point of entry you can travel freely within Crimea and Ukraine.
